How to Set a Studio Closure

Learn how to block new bookings and handle existing reservations when closing your studio for holidays, renovations, or other closures.

Updated today

When your studio is closing for a holiday, renovation, or any planned break, there are two separate steps to complete: blocking new appointment bookings using a date override, and canceling any group classes already on the schedule. This article walks through both.

Step 1 — Block new appointment bookings with a location override

A date override at the location level prevents new appointment bookings from being made during your closure dates. It does not affect group classes — those need to be handled separately (see Step 2).

  1. Tap into your location

  2. Go to the Availability tab

  3. Under Date Overrides, select the date(s) you want to close

  4. Choose Unavailable all day to block the full day, or set specific hours if you are doing a partial closure

  5. Save your changes

Once set, the override prevents new appointments from being booked on those dates. Clients visiting your booking page will not see availability for those days.

⚠️ Important: Setting a location override does not automatically cancel existing reservations. Any appointments already booked before the override was added will remain on the schedule. You will need to cancel those manually if the studio will not be open.

Step 2 — Cancel group classes during the closure

Location overrides only affect appointment booking availability — they have no effect on group classes. If you have group classes scheduled during your closure, you need to cancel them separately so that clients are notified and credits are returned.

  1. Go to Group Classes → My Schedule

  2. Find each class that falls within your closure dates

  3. Open the class and select Cancel class

  4. Choose whether to notify enrolled clients — we recommend always sending the cancellation notification so clients know and can rebook elsewhere

  5. Repeat for all classes across the closure period

Tip: If you have many classes to cancel, use the bulk class editing tool to cancel multiple sessions at once rather than opening each one individually.

Step 3 — Reopen after closure (remove the override)

When you are ready to reopen, removing the override restores normal appointment availability for those dates.

  1. Go to Settings → Locations → [Your location] → Availability

  2. Find the override under Date Overrides

  3. Tap the trash can icon next to the override date to remove it

Appointment availability will return to your standard weekly hours immediately.

Override vs. Cancel — what's the difference?

Studios sometimes use these interchangeably, but they do different things:

Date Override

Cancel Class / Appointment

What it does

Blocks new bookings from being made

Removes an existing booking from the schedule

Affects existing reservations?

No — existing bookings remain untouched

Yes — cancels the reservation and notifies the client

Applies to

Appointments only

Group classes and appointments

Client notification sent?

No

Yes (if enabled)

Reversible?

Yes — delete the override to restore availability

No — a cancelled class cannot be un-cancelled

For a full studio closure, you need both: set the override to block new appointment bookings, and cancel any group classes already on the schedule.
