You can add custom revenue categories to track sales.
Why use Revenue Categories?
Revenue categories are a great way to categorize offerings / services for revenue tracking and reporting purposes that are specific to your business. Unlike Arketa’s default Categories (e.g., classes, memberships, retail), Revenue Categories provide flexibility for tracking and analyzing revenue tailored to your specific business needs.
Differences Between Category and Revenue Category
Category: Built-in product groupings in Arketa (e.g., classes, memberships, retail, intro offers). These are used in the "Sales by Category" report to show revenue by default groupings.
Revenue Category: Customizable groupings you define. These are used in the "Revenue Category Sales" report to provide tailored insights, such as gross revenue, fees, net revenue, and transaction counts.
In summary, Categories are predefined by Arketa, while Revenue Categories are user-defined for more specific reporting needs.
How to Add Revenue Category
Log in to your Arketa dashboard.
Navigate to Settings > Revenue Categories > Categories.
Click on Add New (or the "+" icon) and add in the name and description of the revenue category.
Click Save to finalize the creation of the category.
How to assign a Revenue Category
Go to Settings > Revenue Categories > Assignment
On this page, you can assign the custom categories to each item that you sell (packages, subscriptions, retail, etc) Assigning categories ensures that your sales reports accurately reflect the revenue breakdowns you need.
How to assign Revenue Category when creating a Pricing Option
You can assign a custom revenue category when creating a pricing option.
Note: the revenue category must be created first under Settings > Revenue Categories
You will be able to assign a revenue category under "Revenue Category" in the pricing option:
Reporting with Revenue Categories
Go to Analytics > Reports > Revenue Category Sales to view sales based on the custom categories that you've created!
Best Practices
Always assign a Revenue Category to each pricing option to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
Use clear and descriptive names for your Revenue Categories to simplify report analysis. Arketa’s reports refresh once per day. If you update a Revenue Category assignment (e.g., switching an item from "class package" to "intro offer"), the changes will not appear in reports until the next daily refresh. Unfortunately, there is no manual "force update" option. To ensure accurate reporting, wait until the next business day before exporting your reports.
